Through the Glass

The aim of this project is to develop and nurture a relationship between both artists, to show how women are connected we are even though we live in different countries. The Objective is to create an online resource that provides a visual representation of work in two countries for future reference and development, focusing on women in both countries with a virtual exhibition.

Artists Introduction

Saba Zahid

Zahid is a Lahore based artist, with a bachelors degree in painting  from National College of Arts and a masters in painting degree from Coventry University. During her master’s program at the university, she was able to participate in a group project “I am her”, exhibited at the ST. Mary’s Guild. Previously she has been a part of group exhibitions in her own country and in Dubai as well.

In 2012, she was one of the three individuals selected to represent Pakistan in Luton, for a collaborated cultural exchange program where Pakistani truck art and vardo art was the main focus, the idea of the project was to merge the two forms of art, vardo and truck art (traditional Pakistani painted vehicles) to finally paint a gypsy carriage that reflected the mix of both cultures.

Previously she has been a part of several group exhibitions in her own country and in Dubai as well. Zahid has been able to take part in group and as well as collaborated projects underlining her knowledge of working in groups with different artist, galleries and academics.

Zahid’s work reflects the identity of women. Portraying women in domestic and public spaces, underlining the everyday normal scenes where different acts are carried out. Every society has a different interpretation of women, her life her reality has either been focused on the concept of beauty and the ornamentation of the body or a subject to stories, making her the object. She collects images through photographing women around her.
